Quinta dos Alamos Holidays
Step off the tourist trail and hide away in this tranquil estate, emerging only for fine dining and beautiful beaches - bliss.
Cobbled streets. Green spaces. Beautifully designed villas. Quinta dos Alamos is one pretty, private estate. Modern white-washed villas nestle among almond and carob trees. It looks just like a traditional town. But there's one important difference. There are no bars or restaurants here and it's definitely not teeming with tourists. Instead it's just simple peace and tranquility all the way. That said, it's far from cut off. The lively village of Guia is within walking distance. And here you'll discover a tantalizing choice of 20 or so restaurants. Chicken piri-piri with a chilli sauce is the specialty, but you'll also find everything from gourmet French to pasta and pizza. And Guia's also your base for more practical needs - such as shops, banks and, of course delicious baked goods like the Portuguese custard tart. And the large Algarve Shopping Mall is nearby too. Look out for 'Vida Nova' wine on the shelves – this comes from Sir Cliff Richard's own vineyard, which is just down the road. Looking for those all important golden sands? A short drive brings you to a choice of sandy beaches backed by red sandstone cliffs. Praia de Gale is five kilometres long with space for all, while the village of Castelo has a dramatic cove with impressive rock formations and a beach bar. There's another beach at Sao Raphael, and the beaches, nightlife and old town of Albufeira are only a 10 minute drive away. But if it's the ulitimate peace and quiet you're after, Quinta do Alamos is where it's at. It doesn't get much better than this.
