Cerra d'Aguia Holidays
Views don't come much more spectacular than those at Cerro d'Aguia, a hillside holiday area that looks out over the Praia de Sao Rafael to the beautiful blue waters of the Atlantic. Rich in scenic beauty, it's also known as 'Millionaires Row' because of the swanky villas that line the ridge, decorated in various shades of money. When it comes to beaches, this area scores highly, offering everything from quiet coves to large stretches with bars, restaurants and watersports. The most popular is Gale, a vast expanse of golden sand where you can skid around on a jet ski, go 'up, up and away' on a parasailing adventure or take the kids for a rib-tickling banana boat ride. There's a reasonable selection of bars and restaurants around Cerro d'Aguia, while nearby Albufeira offers more to choose from. Alternatively, head inland to Guia, a lively town where you can give your tastebuds a workout with a plate of chicken piri-piri, washed down with a refreshing glass of vinho verde. There's a modern retail complex just outside of town, with shops, fast food outlets, a cinema and a bowling alley. And Guia is also the home of the famous Zoomarine Park, where you can see dolphins and sealions strutting their stuff, check out the performing parrots and enjoy all the fun of the fair. As for golf, you're never far from a course in the Algarve, and the one at Salgados, just ten minutes or so drive from Cerro d'Aguia, is one of the best.
One thing you can be certain of on holiday in Cerro d'Aguia, is that the views will be spectacular. For Cerro d'Aguia means 'Hill of the Eagle' and it really does have a bird's eye view towards the sea. Cobbled lanes twist steeply up the hill from the market place, and well heeled villas nestle along the ridge, taking full advantage of those lovely views.
Just to the west of Albufeira, Cerro d'Aguia overlooks a coastline of fabulous beaches, some remote and only accessible on foot, and others bustling with banana boats and jet skis. Sunbathe in quiet coves at Praia do Castelo, encircled by sculptured cliffs, rock stacks and blow holes, or walk the vast sands at Praia Da Gale, past beach bars, windsurfers and parasailers.
Whether you've opted for a bargain holiday in Cerro d'Aguia, or something more indulgent, it's always good to eat out, and here you'll have a handful of local restaurants to choose from, as well as the dining extravaganza in Albufeira. The inland town of Guia is justly popular for its restaurants too, and as every child knows, it's also home to Zoomarine. No family summer holiday in the Algarve would be complete without a trip to see the performing dolphins, there's now a waterpark here too. If you've left the theme park days behind, then you might prefer a round of golf at the excellent local course at Salgados, just 10 minutes drive away.
