Bordeira Holidays

'A dazzling whitewashed village snuggled in green, rolling hills, Bordeira is a perfect away-from-it-all bolthole.'

Come to Bordeira and you'll do something of a disappearing act. Because up here in the undulating hills north of Faro, you'll cocooned away from the madding crowds of the coast. A small rural hamlet nestled in lush carob and citrus groves, Bordeira oozes mellow relaxation. When you're not basking in the sun and soaking up the views, there's plenty to get your roaming instincts going. Be sure to visit nearby Loule on a Saturday, when its famous market takes over the old walled town with colourful, food-laden stalls and street performers. Dip your toes into the equally charming market town of Sao Bras de Alportel to admire its sun-baked Archbishop's Palace, tile-adorned houses and enchanting costume and farm museum. And don't leave without buying some typically rustic mementoes of your visit, like the region's hand crafted brushes, individually woven from dried palm leaves. As if this isn't enough, there's even the pull of some fascinating Roman ruins at Milreu, with their poignant mosaics and baths marking the site of what was once a grand weekend retreat. Wherever you go, you'll never be far from the glitzier attractions of the coast. An easy drive southwards brings you to the Algarve's main holiday wares - world-class golf courses, honey-coloured beaches and chic resorts like Vilamoura and Vale de Lobo dripping in stylish restaurants and shops. With all this on your doorstep, who could want for more?
