Boliqueime Holidays
'Simple and authentic Boliqueime takes you right into the heart of rural Portugal.'
Not getting enough R&R? If you're desperate to de-stress in true Portuguese style, then Boliqueime will put a smile - or welcome yawn - on your face. This charming inland village couldn't be less interested in touristy entertainments. A web of narrow roads radiating from a cobbled church square, it's the perfect place to get up close and personal with the rural Algarve. Take a saunter along the tiny streets where old-fashioned shops crouch between handsome whitewashed houses. Follow the scent of fresh bread to the local bakery for loaves still warm from the oven. Or rest a while at a bottle-lined bar on the square. And if you're really in the swing of things, chat with the locals about the important things in life - football, wine and well, Portugal. Around the village, country roads snake through fields scattered with almond orchards, citrus trees and white-painted farmhouses. Here, time seems to be marked only by the sound of sheep bells and farmyard chickens. And it's here, out in the hills that you'll find traditional restaurants to dine out on hearty chicken piri piri and cataplana, washed down by the essential vinho verde. When the tourist track calls, Vilamoura's golf courses, sandy beaches and marina-side restaurants are ten minutes' drive away. But if you're sold on traditional Portugal, your first stop should be Loule. This historic town's Saturday market is more experience than event - bowling over visitors with its scores of vibrant food and handicraft stalls.
Holidays in Boliqueime make the modern world seem far, far away. But, guess what - all the holiday facilities you could ever want are still just down the road. Leaving you free to unwind and relax in the heart of rustic Portugal, and still pop out for a round of golf or a tantalizing plate of seafood.
Simple Boliqueime reaches out from a central, cobbled square, its lanes sheltering tiny shops and lined with whitewashed houses. Here, you'll discover authentic bars where you can pull up a stool and order a glass of local firewater, as well as those hearty, Portuguese restaurants that you'll only find where the locals live and work. There are competitive offers on self catering holidays in Boliqueime, so you can enjoy those welcoming restaurants to the full, or shop for gleaming vegetables and fresh produce at the local village markets. While we're on the subject of markets, the Saturday morning market in Loule is probably the best in the Algarve, with plenty of regional food and every type of local handicraft - lace, metalwork, pottery and more.
However summer holidays to Boliqueime don't have to be all rustic restaurants and almond blossom. Within 10 minutes drive, you'll come to Vilamoura, all glamourous marina and boutique style shopping.
